What is rule of Islam & how can we treat with non Muslim friends like Hindu?

I have still a hindu female friend since my college.

A long time ago, i have gifted her something for her birthday. The most tremendous thing is that, sometimes i called her 'sister' with unconsciouly & emotionally.

 I feel repent for it. And She visited my home many times. And she given treat me. Sometimes, she helped me & i helped her.

What i have to do now?

In islam its forbidden only to make `bosom friendship' with non muslim. due to your faith may fall in danger. but without cordiality A MUSLIM can make friendship with them. as roommate. class friend etc.

in your context i think its good opportunity for you to convey islam and show beautines of islam before them..its not haram to help them. or visit them. unless their any religious party...
